Client Spotlight: Daniel Tan
We caught up with Daniel, who normally spends his time in Coach Wu‘s barbell class. With the circuit breaker in place, he’s now moved to train remotely with Alex Salihin, who is working with Daniel to maintain strength and muscle over the course of the month.
What does a typical day look like for you now?
I wake up around 8am, have a coffee and I am at my desk working. Work from home has really blurred the lines between work and home life, so during the day my wife and I take time out from work to do some home based learning with the kids. I usually workout around 5pm before it gets dark, have dinner after and put the kids to bed. Then it is back to my desk to clear up any additional work before turning in around 11pm.
Is the Circuit Breaker a good thing for you personally?
It’s allowed me to spend a lot more time at home with my family and I am grateful that I have a job that allows me to work from home easily.
How have your fitness goals changed during this time? Or if they haven’t changed, how are you working around them?
My fitness goals haven’t changed, I still want to continue improving on my olympic lifting technique and cross the 100 kg threshold for both lifts (clean and jerk and snatch). I don’t have a barbell at home but have been fortunate enough to have Level to loan me some dumbbells so I can do continue training at home and work on my general fitness.
Talk about the remote coaching process! How you feel receiving instruction virtually etc
I like the convenience of having a programmed tailored for me everyday, it reduces the number of things I need to think about during the day. Level has done a great job of tapping on technology, using TrueCoach and Slack to get across the workouts (with excellent video examples) and check in on your progress.
Are there new insights you might take with you coming out of the circuit breaker back to regular life?
I really really really miss olympic lifting and will never take a barbell for granted again!
