Krystle & Bronson Take on Hydrox: A Dynamic Duo Ready to Compete

When it comes to teamwork, Krystle and Bronson are bringing both strength and fun to the HYROX arena. Competing in the Mixed Doubles category, this LEVEL coaching duo is set to combine power, endurance, and camaraderie as they tackle the ultimate fitness race.
As they prepare for race day, Krystle and Bronson are ready to push their limits, support each other, and most importantly, enjoy the challenge.
For Bronson, teaming up with Krystle was an easy choice. “We’re aligned in personality. We want to win but also have fun doing it! Plus, she’s so strong—I can’t wait to see how she carries us forward,” he shared. Krystle echoed the excitement, recalling how Bronson casually floated the idea of competing one Friday afternoon, and she was quickly on board. “We get along so well as friends and training partners, so the decision was pretty simple.”
What made you decide to take part in HYROX Taiwan? Have you competed in HYROX before? If so, what was that experience like?
[Bron]: I wanted to start training for something and set a goal and target to help train my body more, basically keeping my routine aligned! I did HYROX in Singapore in 2023, the experience was not the best as I did not get in proper conditioning, and I struggled to maintain good form on the runs. This time, however, Krystle and I have been doing our homework!
[Krystle]: Honestly, I spent last year mostly going through the motions with my training – So I was looking for a “purpose” this year, and something fun to work towards. So we decided HYROX could be a fun challenge for us! It will be my first time competing in HYROX 🙂

How have you been preparing for HYROX? Have you changed your training in any way? What do you find most challenging about HYROX-style training? Are there specific areas you’ve been focusing on, like running, strength, or endurance?
[Bron]: we have been training our running and timing more frequently as we recognise it is something that we have fallen short of. Now I run 4-5 times a week, and station or strength training comes after!
[Krystle]: Before deciding to train for HYROX, I was mainly focused on strength training (primarily for aesthetics), and I would go for a run once a week. I’ve now increased my run frequency to 3-4x a week and am going for a variety of run types – short runs, longer distances, and tempo runs- to help improve my speed and overall fitness. Regarding in-gym training, I’m still training at the same frequency. I’ve reduced my full-strength sessions from 4 times a week to 2-3 times, focusing on a more hybrid approach for the other two sessions instead. My weak points at the moment are endurance and the “cardio” aspects of HYROX, so I’ve been focusing on improving through my training.
Do you have a personal goal for this competition?
[Bron]: Yes, of course, Krystle and I are going in to win. If we fall short, then we hit our primary goal of giving it our all.
[Krystle]: We have an ideal “finish time” in mind, but I’ll keep that a secret for now! But my personal goal would be to push my limits both physically and mentally – I tend to run into mental blocks during competitions like this and get frustrated when things get challenging. So I’d like to build a bit more grit and mental tenacity through this experience.
What are you looking forward to most about the event?
[Bron]: Standing on the podium and realising we did what we wanted. Then XXL fried chicken in the night markets of Shilin.
[Krystle]: Completing the race would be a great accomplishment, but I’m also really looking forward to being in Taiwan and eating all the delicious street food after the event!

Do you have any strategies going into race day?
[Bron]: Eat well, rest well, look cute.
[Krystle]: Recovery is always key. I’ve tried several competitive sports, and the key to performing well on any competition day is ensuring your recovery is on point in the days leading up to the event – So, ensuring my sleep, nutrition, hydration and stress are all as well-managed as possible would be important. Beyond that, I think building a mindset that can stay calm and determined, even in the face of exhaustion and pressure, will be important in the weeks leading up to race day.
What would you say to someone at LEVEL who is considering signing up for HYROX?
[Bron]: Do it! It may be challenging, but there’s no losing. The event is suited to everyone!!
[Krystle]: Join us in Taiwan! (Or in Singapore) It will be so much fun. Our Hybrid classes can also help complement your HYROX-specific training in helping you build a strong strength and endurance base.
