Leanne Sim: “I train for better mental health”
Name: Leanne Sim
At the end of 2020, Leanne found herself at Level doing Sweat classes with George 2-3 times a week. However, when the COVID-19 lockdown happened again in 2021 and all the gyms had to close down, she found herself switching to virtual classes.
“I felt a lot of stress and anxiety during COVID in 2020 and working out regularly at Level made the COVID situation so much less stressful.
Even though the gym was going through a tough time, I appreciated how mentally resilient and amazing the trainers were.
You kept us all together when we were apart during the lockdowns. The virtual workouts were something I looked forward to a few times a week!”
In the second half of 2021, she had to undergo a major operation, and began her personal training journey to help with her recovery. She had never done personal training before but found those sessions were a great way to get her back up and running. She also tried small group personal training to work on her fitness.
When she first started training at the end of 2020, she struggled to do a single push-up on her knees. Now she can easily do 15 proper push-ups with proper form.
“A lot of my friends started commenting that I got very toned!”
Her current goal is to get her first pull-up and to be able to squat more than her body weight.
Ultimately, Leanne loves attending classes at Level.
“Currently, I am enjoying classes with Joshua. He has great energy and a super positive and fun attitude.
He’s pushed me to go harder and try heavier weights because he knows I can. I almost feel like it’s personal training in a group setting. He’s fabulous!
We are now doing barbell squats, as well as lunges and abs exercises – all very focused and relevant exercises.”
On going to the gym for her mental health, Leanne says,
“One of my main motivators for going to the gym is because it does wonders for my mental health.
I feel like I have something to look forward to, and I have goals to work towards.
There are many times when I think I am never going to be able to lift that weight, but then I can! When I don’t go, I feel the difference.
After working out, I just feel more positive.“
On how Level is different from other gyms, Leanne says,
“I’ve made a few friends at Level. People here are so friendly and so it’s easy to talk to people. People are also very encouraging.
Once, another gym-goer commented on my improvement, and I felt very encouraged.”
When asked about why she likes Level, Leanne said,
“I love the vibe here! People are just so friendly, and the trainers are so encouraging and always challenging you to try harder. They are also so dedicated.
The locations are very good, right in the heart of the city. I love coming at lunch because it’s like a midday booster.
It’s my happy place!”
